Forever Ago launched on Steam on October 8, 2026. This update tracker records official developer or publisher announcements for the base game at AppID 1215940 and keeps player-reported issues separate. No public semantic version label is asserted when an official post does not provide one.
Check the release state at a glance
2026-10-08 — Forever Ago is Out Now!
Forever Ago moved into full release on Steam. The official store lists Third Shift as developer and Annapurna Interactive as publisher. The launch product is a single-player road-trip adventure with Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud, full controller support, Family Sharing, and a Steam Deck Verified status.
For returning playtest or preview users, treat the public release as its own version scope. Do not carry a test-only route observation, save assumption, or performance result into the retail build without checking it again. This tracker covers the public base game and excludes the separately sold Original Soundtrack.

Read update evidence in the right order
When an official patch appears, compare its product and platform with your installation. A soundtrack update, store metadata change, or unrelated Annapurna announcement does not become a base-game gameplay patch.
Find the build you are actually running
Look for a version or build identifier on the main menu, settings screen, crash report, or developer-requested diagnostic location. Record it exactly. If the game exposes no semantic version, say “public Steam build checked on [date]” and include the Steam technical BuildID only as a separate field when available.
Restart Steam before assuming an update failed to arrive. Open Downloads and confirm that no Forever Ago update remains queued or paused. Do not manually replace files from another player’s installation. If an official update completed but assets appear missing, use Steam’s integrity check once.
For Steam Deck, record both the game build and SteamOS/compatibility environment. The store’s Verified mark does not mean behavior is identical across every later game or Proton update.
Recheck guides after a patch
Progression, achievements, petal placement, save behavior, and controller prompts are the fields most likely to make old instructions misleading. After an official update, reproduce the affected step before changing a guide. Keep location, platform, and build attached to the result.
A fixed issue should move from “player-reported” to “developer says fixed” only when a first-party note says so. It should move to “verified fixed” only after the relevant current build has been tested. Those are different claims.
System requirements and store features also need official confirmation before being rewritten. A player achieving good performance below the minimum does not change the published minimum; a temporary problem on one controller does not remove full controller support from the store.
Handle unannounced depot changes cautiously
Steam may update files without a detailed public post. Record the technical change and date, but do not invent a title such as “1.1 performance patch” or assign fixes based on timing. Compare files or behavior only when you have a legitimate reason and label the result as observation.
If a player report disappears after a depot change, that is useful evidence for retesting, not proof of what the update contained. Ask whether the developer has posted notes and keep the known-issues wording cautious until confirmation arrives.
The same rule applies to achievements. A newly successful trigger after an update does not establish that every platform received the same fix or that the trigger was intentionally changed.
Update questions
What is the latest official version?
The latest verified named state in this tracker is the October 8, 2026 full release. No public semantic version number is claimed from the sources checked on October 10.
Are player bug posts patch notes?
No. They are reports that can guide reproduction. A developer announcement or tested build evidence is needed before stating a fix or confirmed scope.
Does this page track the soundtrack?
No. It covers base-game AppID 1215940. The Original Soundtrack is a separate Steam product and is excluded from gameplay version claims.
