The Forever Ago Steam Community contains a developer bug-report channel and early player help posts, but a post is not automatically a confirmed widespread defect. This tracker labels the evidence level, gives safe first actions, and avoids invented fixes. Check the date and current build before assuming a launch report still applies.
Check the current evidence table
This table is a triage index, not a patch-note claim. “Player-reported” means someone described the state in the exact game’s community; it does not prove cause, frequency, affected platforms, or that the report still reproduces after an update.
Work through a blocked interaction once
Pause and read the journal’s exact objective. Let all dialogue finish. If the camera is raised, lower it so ordinary prompts can appear. Inspect every distinct object in the immediate task area once, including multiple parts of what looks like one mechanical job. Then step away and approach the intended object from a clear angle.
If the scene remains unchanged and menus still work, return to the main menu and reload once. Repeat only the current objective rather than replaying a long chain of random actions. Do not delete saves, replace files, or apply a forum workaround that was written for a different location or build.
For the reported van-bolt state, the safe conclusion is limited: a player observed a block around that interaction. The evidence used here does not establish one exact fix. Submit the objective wording, which bolt or part responded, the last dialogue heard, input device, and whether a clean reload changed anything.
Diagnose achievements separately
An achievement notification can arrive after a scene or when Steam next updates, so return to a stable menu before declaring it lost. Open the current Steam achievement entry and compare its visible condition. Cross-platform lists help reveal hidden intent but do not prove the same trigger timing.
For photography, confirm that the camera recognized the subject. For a vignette, confirm that petals produced a silhouette and that the memory photo registered. For Old Bones, count only seats with genuine rest interactions. Keep “action completed in-game” and “Steam unlock displayed” as separate notes.
Do not start a destructive cleanup. Preserve the completed save and test supported replay access, if the current build offers it. If one action repeatedly fails, report the achievement name, scene, exact sequence, and build rather than guessing that the whole achievement system is broken.
Repair crashes and installation symptoms
Restart Steam and Windows once, then reproduce the crash with the fewest steps possible. Record the location, whether it occurs during launch, loading, or a specific camera transition, and any error text. Compare hardware with the official minimum requirements.
Use Library → Forever Ago → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. This can replace missing or damaged installation data. It does not reset the story and should not be repeated as a ritual after a clean result.
If verification passes and the crash persists, include CPU, GPU, RAM, Windows version, GPU driver, resolution, preset, and input device in the developer report. Avoid claiming a performance threshold or driver fix that has not been tested on the same configuration.
Protect a cloud save conflict
Close the game on every device. Let Steam finish checking synchronization. Compare the local and cloud timestamps with the last road stop you know was completed. Select the known-good state only after making that comparison.
Do not alternate launches between PC and Deck while a conflict is unresolved. Do not assume the cloud copy is always newer or safer. If neither timestamp makes sense, preserve both through a supported backup before accepting a replacement, and ask the developer or Steam Support for device-specific guidance.
Steam Cloud support is official for AppID 1215940, but a supported feature is not a promise that every interrupted sync can infer player intent.
File a report developers can use
Use the Forever Ago Steam Community bug-report discussion. Include:
- AppID 1215940 and the main-menu build number;
- Windows version or SteamOS version and device model;
- CPU, GPU, RAM, and graphics settings for crashes or performance;
- controller model and Steam Input state for input problems;
- exact road stop and journal wording for progression problems;
- numbered reproduction steps, expected behavior, and observed behavior;
- whether one menu reload or one integrity check changed the result.
Keep the description factual. A short reproducible sequence is more useful than a diagnosis without evidence. Do not post private account data or save files publicly unless an identified developer requests them through a trusted method.
