Forever Ago Old Bones Achievement

Plan the Old Bones achievement around every genuine rest prompt, with route habits, evidence limits, single-run precautions, and safe recovery.

Old Bones uses the public condition “Take every opportunity to rest for a moment.” The safe Steam plan is to use every bench, chair, booth, overlook seat, campsite pause, or other object that presents a genuine rest interaction before leaving its location. Public sources disagree or remain incomplete about the exact count and cleanup behavior, so this guide does not publish a fabricated six-seat map.

ConditionRest at every opportunityThis wording is public; decorative furniture without an interaction should not be counted.

Know what counts as a rest opportunity

A valid candidate displays an interaction that makes Alfred sit, pause, or deliberately rest. Benches at viewpoints, diner booths, camp seats, porch chairs, and scene-specific perches deserve attention. A chair visible behind a counter or a decorative bench outside the playable path is not automatically part of the achievement.

Approach slowly and face the usable side. The interaction area can be narrower than the object itself, so step back and adjust left or right if no prompt appears. Lower the camera first; photography mode can hide or replace an ordinary interaction. Wait for active dialogue to end before testing the seat.

After sitting, let the animation and any spoken thought complete. Standing instantly can make it unclear whether the moment registered. The public achievement wording says “for a moment,” which supports completing the intended pause rather than touching a prompt and cancelling it.

Search the route by scene function

Route contextWhere rest prompts are plausibleDeparture risk
Road shops and dinersBooths, benches outside businesses, waiting areas, and overlooks near the van.Paying, completing a booth memory, or returning to the vehicle may advance the stop.
Camps and journal pausesThe seat or resting place used while reviewing photographs and the day's travel.Starting the next drive can close the camp scene.
Sam's detourHouse or porch furniture and the overlook where Alfred sits with Sam.The group selfie and return to the van signal closure.
Abandoned resortCovered seating, scenic pauses, attraction furniture, and the boat-side route.Boarding for the island moves the objective away from the main resort.
Lighthouse and mountainShelter, coffee area, coastal views, and deliberate pauses along the final climb.Camera memories, stair climbs, and late cutscenes can remove access.

This is a search plan, not a claim that every row contains one or a fixed number of required seats. It narrows attention to areas designed for a pause while preserving the exact-total uncertainty identified by the audit.

Use a first-visit routine

When Alfred arrives, read the journal and complete the introductory conversation. Walk the outside edge before touching the central objective. Test any seat that offers a prompt, let the rest finish, and record the location in a simple personal checklist. Then search the interior or main route.

Before an action that clearly closes the stop—paying, entering the van, boarding a boat, climbing into a final cutscene, or committing a journal page—make one last scan. Look toward viewpoints and covered side areas rather than every decorative prop. A real rest interaction should announce itself when Alfred is correctly positioned.

Do not depend on memory across a whole playthrough. Record the route section, object type, and whether Alfred completed a line or animation. A note such as “Sam overlook — sat through conversation” is stronger than “probably got the bench.”

Prompt appears

Use it immediately, keep the camera lowered, and wait until control clearly returns after the rest.

Seat looks usable but stays silent

Try the front and one side after dialogue. If no interaction appears, record it as decorative rather than forcing a count.

Story is ready to leave

Delay departure long enough for one final perimeter pass. Do not trigger the van, boat, or closing scene first.

Steam has not unlocked

Reach a stable menu, let Steam update, and preserve the save before testing any supported replay path.

Treat chapter cleanup as unverified

One independent fan guide claims Old Bones requires a continuous run and that chapter selection cannot repair missed rests. Another completion route simply recommends doing every prompt during the story because the public list does not define replay behavior. Neither is a developer statement verified here on the current Steam build.

The conservative response is the same: make a clean story run and rest when each opportunity first appears. Do not tell players that chapter select definitely works, and do not erase a completed save based on an unverified claim that it definitely fails. If your current build exposes replay, preserve the original and test with a clear before-and-after platform state.

Steam may display the unlock after control returns or after a later save boundary. Finish the final qualifying rest, wait through the associated scene, and reach a stable menu. Separate “I used every recorded prompt” from “Steam displayed the unlock”; that distinction creates a useful bug report if the two diverge.

Recover from a missing interaction

If a rest prompt disappears while dialogue is active, wait, lower the camera, move a few steps away, and return to the intended side. If a scene has already advanced, do not force-close during saving. Complete the transition and check for a supported return only from a stable menu.

Avoid save editors, downloaded completion files, and Cloud toggling. Those steps can destroy the record needed to diagnose a missed counter. If a seat works but the achievement never appears, report the exact route log, Steam AppID 1215940, platform, input device, and build through the developer’s bug-report discussion.

Sources and verification boundary

The route grouping and recovery process are original. No third-party seat count, exact location set, or chapter-select claim has been promoted beyond its evidence.
